GeoSpectrum Technologies Inc. (GeoSpectrum) is proud to partner with Imhotep’s Legacy Academy (ILA), Business is Jammin’, and Ocean Technology Council of Nova Scotia (OTCNS) in the establishment of the “ILA-Ocean Technology Scholarship” for African Nova Scotian students. This scholarship will grant eligible students in grades 11 and 12 up to $7,000.00 per semester for four years of undergraduate studies and a guaranteed paid co-op placement with GeoSpectrum.

“This scholarship was created in response to the financial barriers faced by African Nova Scotians attending post-secondary education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This scholarship aims to motivate African Nova Scotian learners in ocean technologies and science. African Nova Scotia students that are interested in ocean technology or science careers and plan to enter post-secondary STEM education will be able to further their education. Furthermore, the scholarship will be awarded to students that demonstrate financial need and wish to pursue ocean-related STEM programs in university or college.”

Paul Yeatman, President of GeoSpectrum commented: “I’m very pleased to have GeoSpectrum involved in this program. The scholarship is aimed at reducing the impact of systemic racism, by providing an underrepresented group more opportunities to get the education required to reach leadership positions in Nova Scotia’s burgeoning Ocean Tech industry. We will continue to solicit more funding from industry and government partners to increase the impact and ensure program sustainability.”

Megan Andrus, Marketing and Communications Manager added: “Drawing awareness to racism in our province has to go beyond making posts on social media. Supporting local (black) businesses, educating ourselves and our colleagues, and investing in all areas of our community are some of the ways we can truly make an impact. We hope that this will inspire other companies in our industry to join us in making a difference.”
