TRAPS – USV

Game-changing uncrewed ASW capability

TRAPS (Towed Reelable Active Passive Sonar) is a family of variable depth, active passive sonars. With its robust and modular design and advanced, flexible sonar processing, TRAPS is an ideal choice for navies seeking high-performance anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities while increasing fleet flexibility. TRAPS is available in containerized, organic, and USV variations.

TRAPS-USV is the ultra-compact variant of the TRAPS system suitable for deployment from smaller platforms and Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) as small as 12 m long. TRAPS-USV provides a unique combination of high performance, small dimensions and low weight due to the patented TRAPS family feature allowing the active source to be reeled on the winch and eliminating the need for a dedicated bulky over-boarding system. Like its’ larger variant TRAPS, TRAPS-USV incorporates advanced sonar control and processing designed to support distributed and remote processing.

Description

In conjunction with GeoSpectrum’s software processing, TRAPS provides surface ships such as OPVs, corvettes, ships of opportunity, and USVs with high-performance active and passive sonar capability for detection, classification, tracking, and localization of underwater targets. TRAPS can be part of an integrated ASW suite including multiple sonars, torpedo defense systems, underwater communication, and bathythermograph systems.

TRAPS easily adapts to different mission requirements through its revolutionary frequency customization; the active source has interchangeable LF, MF and HF blades which can be swapped on board in less than 30 minutes.
